A journey of discovery through the exotic desserts of Pakistani cuisine.

In this eagerly awaited follow up to Pakistani cookbook Summers Under the Tamarind Tree, food writer and cookery teacher Sumayya Usmani continues her journey of discovery through the exotic cuisine of her native Pakistan. Mountain Berries and Desert Spice introduces home cooks to Pakistani desserts and explores their unique significance in the country's culture and traditions. The 70 authentic and family recipes travel from the foothills of the Hindu Kush mountains in the north (where berries and fruits grow in abundance), via the fertile Punjab (with its rice- and grain-based desserts) to the Arabian sea in the south, where saffron- and cardamom-laced sweet recipes are a favourite. From the sweet snacks shared between friends over coffee to sumptuous desserts fit for lavish weddings, Sumayya tempts the reader with beautiful, easily achieved recipes that anyone can savour.

Sumayya Usmani was born and raised in Karachi, Pakistan and has lived in the UK for more than 10 years, first in London and now in Glasgow, Scotland. Always passionate about her heritage cuisine, she has grown up cooking the food she knows as Pakistani with the women of her family, and this kindled her love for cooking from an early age. Sumayya read her Masters in Law and practiced as solicitor for 15 years, while still writing recipes on her own website mytamarindkitchen.com and regularly contributing to UK and international food publications such as The Guardian, Delicious and BBC Good Food and has been featured in The New York Times and International Herald Tribune. She also teaches cookery classes in London's Divertimenti Cookery School and many other cookery schools across the country. Sumayya decided to pursue her food career full-time and is now a freelance food writer and teacher. Find out more about Sumayya at sumayyausmani.com
